Craig Says He’ll Stay in Senate, Defying the G.O.P. By Carl Hulse. New York Times

This is a huge story in Idaho, and, of course, nationwide too.

Update. Editorial by the Idaho Statesman. Our view: Craig’s broken promise is unfair to Idahoans.

Idaho GOP divided as Craig says he’s staying. By John Miller. Associated Press Writer. Craig says his accumulated seniority will help Idaho, but his party has effectively taken away the power that comes with seniority — he is no longer “ranking member” on his Senate committees.

For Craig, legal fight gets tougher if he presses Minn. case. By Patrick Condon, Associated Press Writer

Finally, I should add that if Craig’s obnoxious anti-wildlife amendments make it into law, it won’t be the Republicans’ fault. It will rest on Senator Dianne Feinstein (Dem-CA) who chairs the committee.

  1. This is off the Larry Craig issue, but is related because it came out of the sleezy politician file…

Who remembers Wyoming Representative Barbara Cubin’s debacle when she was a representative in the Wyoming Legislature and in 1994 took penis cookies to a “session” and photographed the pants crotches of male legislators, then asked them to guess who belongs to which?

Yes, I have good sources that document the incident, if you want them.

In June of 2004, I called Cubin’s Washington office (she wouldn’t talk to me) and spoke with her Chief of Staff, Joe Milczewski. I asked him if he or Barbara would like to make a statement about the penis cookie incident. His response was “Why would you want to bring up something that happened so many years ago?”

Oh, I dunno… Derail her campaign, maybe? 🙂

  2. It agree. He can’t seem to see his hypocrisies.

Also, maybe he is like George W. Bush, not an ounce of empathy in his soul, making it impossible for him to generalize from others so situated to his own unpleasant situation.

  3. In yesterday’s Oregonian was an article about Craig being inducted into Idaho’s Hall of Fame for all the great things he has done for the state……
