This is not an overview of all of Wyoming, or even NW Wyoming. It’s a story mostly about the country southwest of Jackson Hole — the Fall Creek elk herd. Ironically, this herd is in the area where all wolves can be killed by anyone at will beginning March 28.

Dr. Ralph Maughan is professor emeritus of political science at Idaho State University. He was a Western Watersheds Project Board Member off and on for many years, and was also its President for several years. For a long time he produced Ralph Maughan’s Wolf Report. He was a founder of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition. He and Jackie Johnson Maughan wrote three editions of “Hiking Idaho.” He also wrote “Beyond the Tetons” and “Backpacking Wyoming’s Teton and Washakie Wilderness.” He created and is the administrator of The Wildlife News.

Of course, the liberal hunting proposals don’t match up with the wolf propaganda coming out of Cheyenne about wolves cutting into elk cow-calf numbers. It’s always amazed me that Cheyenne thinks it can get away with it. But it does. This is Wyoming.
I call the pronghorn “live lawn ornaments”. I have 10 acres and HAD three German Shepherds. Had means for there welfare and the harassment I was receiving from Fish and Game and the City attn. in Pinedale (6 tickets for dogs at large, dogs harassing game) This is a fence out State I KNOW yet the fence I have is non-barb wire etc…. Have you seen this little buggers they go under around etc… I wonder if they are watching the border and tunneling under sometimes. O.K. my point is I gave up three members of my family for these rules but I sure do think I was done wrong. This is my land and my dogs where protecting it. I would have been better off shooting a human then a pronghorn. You can do that in WY. Whats up with that!!
