Contacting Info

ynp4me took the time to gather information about who to contact in Wyoming. It was sent as a comment, but due to the work involved, I am moving it to a post.

I made a quick list of people to contact for Yellowstone.net and then thought I’d add this here too! ~ Vicky

Send letters, make calls, etc about the Wyoming Wolf Killings!

It is very easy to see Yellowstone and avoid spending money or giving tax money $ to Wyoming. Don’t buy any gas in Wyoming or Yellowstone. Fill up with gas everyday in Montana or Idaho.

Lodging in the park creates tax money for Wyoming. Consider lodging outside of YNP. Let Xanterra know why you change your reservations. There is lodging in Montana in the gateway towns of West Yellowstone, Gardiner, Jardine, Silver Gate, and Cooke City.

Buy all trinkets, t-shirts and such in Montana gateway towns.
It will save you money (usually same items but are less expensive than in the park and in towns with resort tax- it’s less than WY tax).

Looking at the Pinedale Online Page this morning…
Some may consider calling all advertisements
http://www.pinedaleonline.com/#wyomingwolf
and asking them not to support the newspaper
by advertising with them. Most ads are geared
toward tourists… snowmobilers and real estate.

  1. I have posted the URL for these contacts to the Western Carnivore Conservation List as well.

  2. Spoke with the Tourism Bureau and they suggested contacting their rep to the Governor. His name is Chuck Coon
    “chuck.coon@visitwyo.gov”

  3. Making purchases in Montana instead of Wyoming supports the state directly responsible for the largest bison slaughter since the 19th century. Perhaps this is a good year to visit Zion, the Smokies, the Everglades, etc. I can’t think of another national park that actually kills its wildlife to prevent it from leaving.

  4. Pronghorn, you’re exactly right. Perhaps all three states – Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, should be avoided.

Here’s a park I’m madly in love with: Capital Reef, in Utah. Avoid the campground at Fruita and the one in the south; head up to the northern part of the park – and you’ll be rewarded…

  5. Visit Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. It isn’t the largest park, but it is pretty.
Heck, just visit your local national forests… haze a cow!! HA, that was just a joke!!!
If you are already planning on going to YNP do not shop in the gate communities. If you go, camp, and take all your supplies with you, and avoid touristy spots… or stay inside the park… but fill up before you enter Wyoming, Montana or Idaho, then buy gas inside the park.
I am with Mack though, there are so many places to visit.
Maybe we should boycott New Mexico too.

  6. Be sure and tell everyone on the contact list that people come to Wyoming to see wolves, not cows.

  7. I hate to say it, but I’ve contacted the governor of Wyoming to voice my displeasure with his policies—even tried being very diplomatic. I mentioned how I won’t spend ANY money in Wyo. anymore, but used to spend a lot of time and money there. I think he and his legislature are too ignorant or pigheaded to care. Only large scale boycotts and screaming businesses might get their attention.

  8. Calling and writing about why you visit Wyoming should be done! Wyoming understands how much they take in from tourists! A friend of mine suggested sending in copies of our bills from our trips. Show them that we spend money!

The bottom line is, we don’t like Wyoming’s wolf policy and we
need to let them know it!

  9. Thanks for all the e-mail addresses and contact information in Wyoming. I am in the process of sending e-mails to each and every contact listed. This recent killing of Wolf #253, former Druid, is outrageous. I agree with whoever said that it ranks right up there with the killing of Wolf #10 in 1995. Another trigger happy redneck. Another wolf not bothering any livestock. What a shame it is that all the organizations out to stop this slaughter have to wait till the end of this month??? How many more before then??? It really troubles me. I have written that I will no longer spend any money in Wyoming and the only time I will set foot in that state is when I am in Yellowstone.

  10. Is anyone getting any responses frrom these contacts. I know when I contact officials in my state I at least get acknowledgement that they will consider my concerns. I haven’t recieved anything back from these Yahoos. Even when I called Barbara Cubins office, all I got was an uh huh.

  11. You won’t get much response unless you are their constituent.

One place that might very well care is the Committee on Natural Resources in the US House. You might have seen the article on the GAO’s condemnation of the bison slaughter today. The GAO did the investigation at the request of this committee. The General Accounting Office is an investigative arm of the Congress.

This House committee (Natural Resources) has jurisdiction over the Department of Interior, and they are generally friendly since the 2006 election.

The phone number given at their web site is (202) 226-9019

Web site http://resourcescommittee.house.gov/index.php Note that the GAO report on bison is the committee’s headline story today on their web site.

  12. As I stated above…
Some may consider calling all advertisements
    http://www.pinedaleonline.com/#wyomingwolf
and asking them not to support the newspaper
by advertising with them. Most ads are geared
toward tourists… snowmobilers and real estate.

Seems the Editor of Pinedale Online does not like the idea of us calling her advertisers!

Pinedale Online is where CAT posts her wolf info…

    clipped….

We were quite appalled to read in a wolf worship blog recently asking his readers to call our local newspaper’s advertisers and ask them to not advertise with the paper because he doesn’t like Cat’s style of reporting on wolf activity here. While we certainly respect anyone’s right to a different opinion, this blogger is confused on some of his facts. We want to clarify that Pinedale Online is not a part of either of our local newspapers. We are completely separate business entities and our content is entirely on the Web. We are proud to sponsor Cat Urbigkit and Wolf Watch on Pinedale Online, and we are entirely responsible for the content that appears on our website and on Cat’s Wolf Watch section. We are proud that we are able to provide our content for free and not charge our readers a subscription fee to get access to our stories. Readers who don’t like what is printed in a newspaper can stop buying and reading that newspaper. Readers who don’t like what appears on our website are certainly welcome to move on and get their wolf news from other websites. If Cat’s Wolf Watch is your ongoing source for finding out about the wolf happenings in our area, we hope you appreciate the time and research she puts into each story to get that news out to you.

  13. Greetings!

I was just looking at the Gray Wolves in the Northern Rocky Mountains website
http://www.fws.gov/mountain-prairie/species/mammals/wolf and saw that they are discontinuing the interagency weekly wolf reports.

Each state will have their own wolf information:

    MT http://fwp.mt.gov/wildthings/wolf/default.html

    WY http://gf.state.wy.us/services/education/wolves/index.asp

  14. I am calling Xanterra on Monday and cancelling my reservations, I am also sending a letter to every one of the above mentioned contacts.
Where do the Native Americans in Wyoming stand on this?
Perhaps we should start writing to them too.

  15. Here are a few more places to contact in regards to getting the word out about the Wyoming Wolf Policy. You may wish to express concern about the Sublette County, Wyoming elk feeding grounds issues as well.

Please write letter and make calls that detail your concerns about the WY wolf policy in a clear and peaceful manner.
