Obama Nominates Superfund Polluter Lawyer To Run DOJ Environment Division

“Meet the new boss..same as the old boss” ?Β

Many of us hoped that with a new Department of Justice (DOJ), many of the most contentious and important environmental disputes governing environmental issues now held in the courts might be settled with a greater regard for this nation’s existing Β environmental laws – that’d mean progress. Β Think Progress has some unfortunate background information on Obama’s choice as top lawyer for the DOJ’s Natural Resource Division.
Obama Nominates Superfund Polluter Lawyer To Run DOJ Environment Division :

President Barack Obama has nominated a lawyer for the nation’s largest toxic polluters to run the enforcement of the nation’s environmental laws. On Tuesday, Obama β€œannounced his intent to nominate” Ignacia S. MorenoΒ to beΒ Assistant Attorney General for the EnvironmentΒ and Natural Resources Division in the Department of Justice.Β

God help us, we’ve been rolled again ! Β There is no blaming this one on Salazar (as tempting as that might be) – it’s Obama, this appointment isΒ would have been key as a legal check to Department of Interior and Department of Agriculture’s anti-environmentalΒ lawlessness.

  1. And the hits just keep coming…..Boy I love this concept of change!

  2. This is absolutely ridiculous. I really don’t know what to say.

I feel embarrassed that I advocated for Obama.

  3. Gee what a surprise, a politican lied to the public to get elected! There is No Republican nor Democrat anymore they are all full of shit! It’s a bunch of lying assholes trying to better themselves and friends intrests at the taxpayers expense! How freaking many years of this does it take to make people realize the bullshit these people portray? It isn’t going to ever change unless we as a people stand together and do something about it!

  4. I have to say I am shocked that so many people are so surprised that Obama is just another politician. He is a product of the Chicago Democratic ( I am from the Chicago area) machine that spawns more corruption than just about any political organization I have ever seen. What more did you expect for a man whose only political experience was a speech at the convention. All these Chicago machine guys know is self preservation. Let him kill the country with debt and literally kill the country by going against his campaign promises. I saw this coming and wish more people did not buy into hackneyed tag lines and his amazing marketing ability. This is your “change”. We need a new party to come in and shake things up and eliminate the good old boy ways of Washington, until that happens it is the same crap with a different party name.

  5. Unfortunaltly to truely change the Gov’t there would have to be another civil war, which I don’t see happening! But would support 100%.

  6. Whoever is pulling the strings on the Democratic party is an evil genius. Nominate a business friendly, hispanic. If anybody objects (and they probably only will half-heartedly) they look racist. It doesn’t matter that the guy won’t do the job the way it was intended–environmental affairs mean nothing to the democratic party. They don’t realize yet what swung the vote their way. Stop BLINDLY supporting everything Obama does and begin looking at things with a jaundiced eye. Maybe they will wake up in the next couple of years.

  7. I agree with Ralph..this one is all Obama and Emanuel’s…and it stinks. That division has basically been gutted by the Bush folks and people of high quality that couldn’t stand being there anymore, so they quit. And now we get a Superfund Lawyer…a law which has never worked to do what it was supposed to do because of corporate influence AND complicity by the DOJ and EPA. I used to do RCRA and Superfund work 15 or so years ago…wouldn’t touch it again for one of the bonuses handed out to AIG folks…

There was so much hope for environmentalists with Obama’s election. Looks like I can at least label myself naive about just how ignorant Obama and his team are about the environment. I had an idea when we met with one of his enviro folks early on in the campaign here in Colorado, and his answers about the Mining Law, ESA, etc..were embarrassing, but I just figured he was a regional guy and he cared more about the Benjamins than the issues.

Worse, they don’t really care to educate themselves about real problem solving. SOS…different day. I mean, I realize the economy is in the toilet, but really, does it mean you get to punt on all the other issues?

  8. I feel embarrassed that I advocated for Obama.

Do I need to switch parties?

  9. Might not be a bad idea. Don’t know what Wyoming’s residency requirements are. πŸ˜‰

  10. Hey—if you are registered Democrat consider changing to independent. Something has to be done. Your party is being run the same way by the same guys as when Bush was there. The only things that have changed is who gets the money, gay marriage issues, and a couple of minor things. THE GUY (Obama) DIDN’T EVEN SUPPORT THE AUTO WORKERS! Talk about the Democratic party selling out! Most of the decisions made so far are exactly as they would have been had McCain won or exactly as the former Republican admin. would have wanted. Point to something different! Maybe I’m forgetting something.

  11. Obama is a Socialist not a Democrat. He only ran under the Democratic ticket. Just wait we haven’t seen anything yet!
If he gets elected for a second term its all over but the shouting! He will have nothing to loose and won’t have to walk the line on any issue. The best thing to do is register as a Independent. If the two parties started to loose members and the Independent party started to grow that would get their attention.
