Montana’s wolf hunt did not have a slow start like Idaho’s-
Out of the quota of 75, already 23 wolves have been killed. In total eleven wolves were shot over the weekend.
The entire state was open to hunting for just 3 days. Southern Montana’s quota was filled on Sunday with the hunt ending at sunset today (Monday). Nine wolves in southern Montana had already been killed near Yellowstone Park before the general wolf, deer and elk season opened this weekend, so it took just 3 dead wolves to fill the quota for district 3, which takes in most of southern Montana. Note: district 2 which is still open includes SW Montana, a much smaller area than district 3. See map.

I got to a link on the Great Falls Tribune’s site. Typical paranoia from the commentators. I love the illegal conspiracy theory lies people try to spin. It is strange that Montana got so many wolves so quickly compared to Idaho.

OK well got the link out of the Missoulian but I can’t seem to get it from this page. Had a very bad feeling all Sunday morning, and this is why. After being in a couple of waterholes the past few weeks and hearing of the excitement to kill wolves, and make boots out of their fur, (excuse me is it pelt?) this doesnt surprise me.

If I remember correctly, the first hearing date is sometime in January.
Defenders has a petition going to send to Salazar, asking him to reverse his delisting decision. More then likely he won’t do a thing but just in case, wolf advocates should sign it, if there is even a small chance he would change his mind.
They are up to 90,400 signatures already and their goal is 100,000, so they’re getting close to their goal.

About shooting wolves (little bit off topic but no open thread available at the moment): Spanish photographer Jose Luis Rodriguez has won the prestigious 2009 BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year award for his picture of an Iberian wolf leaping a fence as it pursues its prey. He used a custom-built infrared trap to snap the wolf as it leapt into the air. He told the BBC, “I wanted to capture a photo in which you would see a wolf in an act of hunting – or predation – but without blood,” He went onto say that he hoped his picture, “showing the wolf’s great agility and strength”, will become an image that can be used to show just how beautiful the Iberian wolf is and how the Spanish can be proud to have such an emblematic animal.
