See the film that Dr. Jane Goodall wants millions of Americans to see

Award-winning documentary exposing Wildlife Services’ war on wildlife

coming to four different communities in Idaho

Moscow- An award-winning wildlife documentary that Jane Goodall wants millions of people to see is coming to Idaho. Predator Defense’s film, EXPOSED: USDA’s Secret War on Wildlife, features three former federal agents, and a prominent Congressman, blowing the whistle on a wasteful and highly controversial federal wildlife management program called “Wildlife Services”. Every year, federal agents kill millions of animals across the nation, including thousands in Idaho, through trapping, snaring, poisoning, explosives, and aerial gunning methods. A lawsuit filed in Idaho by conservation groups, has forced the agency to reevaluate the impacts of its wildlife “control” program in the state.

Wildlife Services killed thousands of species native to Idaho in 2013. Coyotes, gray wolves, cougars, foxes, badgers, marmots, beavers, and other native wildlife were all killed at federal taxpayer expense. This includes the aerial gunning of dozens of wolves in the “Lolo Zone” of north-central Idaho. The “Lolo Zone” features some of the most rugged and beautiful federal public wildlands in the lower 48, and offers crucial habitat for species like gray wolves, grizzly bears, wolverines, and more.

“It’s incredibly important for people to attend any of the screenings this week to learn more about this tax-payer funded wildlife killing machine,” said Brett Haverstick, Friends of the Clearwater Education & Outreach Director. “If Americans realized that wolves and coyotes are still being gunned down by helicopters in the 21st Century, this program would cease immediately.”

Friends of the Clearwater, and others, filed a lawsuit in February 2015 challenging Wildlife Services’ outdated environmental analysis for its wildlife-killing activities in Idaho. The lawsuit has forced the agency to reconsider its impacts and produce an updated analysis. The groups are also seeking long-term changes to the agency’s “control” operations, and to instead, adopt nonlethal methods.

“It is past time for this reckless federal agency to be held accountable to we the people, and incorporate the best available science in its day-to-day operations,” said Gary Macfarlane, Friends of the Clearwater Ecosystem Defense Director. “We are hopeful that our collective efforts will force Wildlife Services to comply with our nation’s federal public land laws.”

Screenings will be held in Coeur d’Alene, Moscow, Boise, and Pocatello. Each one will be followed by an audience Q&A session, with film co-producer Brooks Fahy. Event sponsors include Predator Defense, Advocates for the West, Western Watersheds Project, Kootenai Environmental Alliance, and Friends of the Clearwater.

  1. RE this film screening, I worked on finding a venue, to host a similar screening on Cape Cod. In late 2013, Brooks Fahy presented the film and then Jon Way, Brooks and I held a panel discussion afterward. The audience was largely unaware of the activities of the Wildlife Services and the terrible carnivore policies in the US. It was powerful to see the reaction of the audience. Please support this film by attending and if you know institutions that may host a screening please contact Brooks/Predator Defense and remember Predator Defense is a non profit and they depend on donations and gifts to do the excellent work they do.

  2. Gonna try really hard with other non profits from here in Jackson Wy to get this film here. Also posting this on my FB Page so peeps back on the East Coast know what is going on, this film may happen in New York, hope it does

  3. The first two screenings in Coeur d’Alene and Moscow have gone real well, with radio appearances and media inquiries. Hope folks can get out and see the film this week. Brooks Fahy and Predator Defense do an excellent job.
