Dr. Ralph Maughan is professor emeritus of political science at Idaho State University. He was a Western Watersheds Project Board Member off and on for many years, and was also its President for several years. For a long time he produced Ralph Maughan’s Wolf Report. He was a founder of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition. He and Jackie Johnson Maughan wrote three editions of “Hiking Idaho.” He also wrote “Beyond the Tetons” and “Backpacking Wyoming’s Teton and Washakie Wilderness.” He created and is the administrator of The Wildlife News.

This would be great, but I don’t think it will get through the new democrat house. I think they will shoot down this budget. This isn’t the first Bush environmental act. His wetlands initiatives have been excellent, if I recall correctly.
Unless he has a trick up his sleeve, likely, I don’t see why Democrats would shoot this down.
This would be one they don’t have to fight.

Well, this has the smell of Karl Rove all over it. How many times has this feces stain in Washington come out with some big hallaballo plan that was going to turn around America and HEAL THE PEOPLE, only to disappear in a flash once Bushit got what he wanted. Good Lord lets not fall for it again. For example make sure that this proposal IS actually funded. (Remember the NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND act.)
I got the whole picture on public land funding from Public Lands News today.
The Parks do OK, but it is more cutbacks for the rest of the public lands, and no funding for rural public schools except by selling off the national forests. Several politicians had some sharp words for “the decider” today about that matter

The increase in “wetlands” has little to do with the conservation efforts of the administration and more to do with how they altered the count of “wetlands.” It’s easy to show an increase in “wetlands” when you (Bush) rewrite the rules to include golf-courses and residential-development ponds – both of which are so full of pesticides as to render them uninhabitable in most instances.
They’ve created lots of new wetlands in Eastern Wyoming by pumping the water out of coal beds to extract the coal bed methane (natural gas).
Trouble is these are saline and often poisonous. Great breeding grounds for culex tarsalis, however, the mosquito most likely to transmit West Nile Virus.
