BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Wildlife officials made a last push Tuesday to get bison back into Yellowstone National Park before they face possible slaughter if caught outside park boundaries.

Dr. Ralph Maughan is professor emeritus of political science at Idaho State University. He was a Western Watersheds Project Board Member off and on for many years, and was also its President for several years. For a long time he produced Ralph Maughan’s Wolf Report. He was a founder of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition. How pathetic. Glad our tax dollars are being used on this!!!
There are many abuses of wildlife that are worse than this, but as I have said before, this angers me the most because the official lies about the “program” are so blatant and condescending.
Yes, “blatant and condescending lies” accurately describes how the government works/misleads & manipulates the masses. If anyone should choose to really look further into the matter, they would know that money/commerce & the allmighty dollar means everything to the powers that be, period. It is their only currency. Those in the power positions regarding this situation/crisis are supposed to be “representing” those of us whom pay their salaries. Unfortunately that is not the case. Please, feel free to spend my money on “Hazing” & vaccines, period. I absolutely do not give anyone the right to spend my money (tax dollars) on the wholesale slaughter of the beautiful/innocent/necessary/worthy Bison. Like that is really going to make a difference…………
Actually, Wendy, if you were to witness the brutality of a haze, and understand that it also does not make a difference, you would not want your money spend on it. Talk about useless and wasteful. This week it was pregnant bison and newborns calves. Similar hazes have causes miscarriages.
Hazing causes great stress on the bison. In the winter they work hard to find food and any extra movements only serve to deplete that hard earned energy. Thus hazing can lead to starvation and death.
Nor is it a solution to try to vaccinate wild animals when cattle are easier to locate and the vaccine works better on cows.
The solution is complex, but at it’s core it involves a far more hands-off approach that hazing, capturing, testing, vaccinating, or slaughtering.
Since Ralph published Schweitzer’s email, I’m curious if anyone that contacted him has received any type of reply concerning the bison. I haven’t. This governor has lied to us….seems he’s done nothing to help with this situation.
I see there is a critical new appointment to the Montana Department of Livestock. I’d better post the article.
