Gila Mothers are Not Afraid of Wolves

Gila mothers not afraid of wolves. Article Launched: 07/29/2007 01:00:00 AM MDT. By Denise Blake, Jennifer Bjornstad, Juniper Bowers, Jane Bruemmer, Dulcie Clarkson, Jamie Crockett, Teleah Dabbs, Carol Fugagli, Melanie Gasparich, Samira Johnson and Jennifer Sprague. SilverCity Sun-News.

These local women are responding to a fear-mongering ag lobbying who is using the standard, the wolves are going to a child or someone.

It’s my impression that if someone is afraid of wolves, the probability is it will be a man living in a rural area. Women in these areas are often made of more solid stuff.

  1. This makes me laugh, especially when one thinks of the rough tough image many of these anti-wolf ranchers try to portray. I too am raising two little girls in wolf, lion, and grizzly habitat. I’m aware of my surroundings and I am smart about what we do, but my little girls are being raised in an amazingly wild and beautiful place. I’m glad these ladies spoke up, the anti-wolf crowd is so unrealistic that proud women like these do a lot for the discussion by making these fear mongers look silly and immature.

  2. Hats off and kudos to these women – voices of reason among the crazed ravings of the anti-wolfers – we keep encroaching on the wilderness, the territory that belong to the bears, wolves, mountain lions, etc. what will happen when there is no wildlife left except for the zoos…that is the beginning of our downfall!

  3. I´will spread this to our anti-wolf circles here. These (men) use the same silly arguments. I think these ladies and their children live in real harmony with and have a deep understanding of the land. We need more of them!

  4. Right on, sisters! These women live in Aldo Leopold’s stomping ground–they obviously understand the importance of thinking like a mountain!

  5. These mothers are right-on! They know that woves will not harm them or their children! What are their oppontents afraid of?
