Castle Rock mop up continues, but high winds forecasted

Story from the Idaho Mountain Express. By Jon Duval.

Idaho weather will soon moderate, however, and I think there might be a fair chance of a fire season ending event in several days. Heavy, wet thunderstorms and much cooler weather is predicted.

  1. There is a new fire that started Thursday morning to the West of the new Tamarack Resort on Cascade Reservoir. Tamarack is the Resort that baby Bush visited a couple of years ago.

    From Inciweb http://www.inciweb.org/incident/972/ :
“The Grays Creek Fire, sparked by lightning on August 30, has now burned over 14,630 acres and is 30% contained. Saturday the fire continued to burn to the northeast, pushing into the Warm Springs drainage and crossing Fall Creek Road to the east. This extreme fire behavior with sustained surface fire and short crown runs produced extensive smoke and fire columns. Today, crews will work to secure the east flank of Warm Springs Creek. Numerous structures in Middle Fork Weiser, Fall Creek and Cottonwood Creek remain threatened. Plans for structure protection are in place and preparation work has been completed to implement these plans if needed. Crews made significant progress in this area yesterday. Work will continue today to hold and extend containment lines. The Forest Service has implemented an area closure for public safety. Main roads into the area have staffed roadblocks. Hunters and other Forest visitors are urged to stay out of the area to allow fire crews access to secure the fire perimeter.”
