Idaho Fires lead to higher avalanche danger. KTVB 7.

Much of the vast area burned is steep and turns into avalanche country when the trees are removed, even partially. The same will be true in parts of Montana where there were many fires.

Right now snow pack is generally low.

Sawtooth National Forest Avalanche Center
Idaho Panhandle National Forests Avalanche Center
Payette Avalanche Center. This area could have the worst avalanche season in terms of area covered.

Thanks for the information. I live in Cache Valley (SE Idaho) where this season was light in respect to fires.

BTW, the Utah Avalanche Center is also a good reference.
