    Great reality check. I hope it gets people thinking.

    January 2008 I was visiting Huntington, WV. Along the highway between Charleston and Hunt., there were giant billboards that read, “Coal, it’s what keeps the lights on.” That made me cringe, especially after seeing the progress being made to flatten both states.

    Mountaintop removal coal mining has largely flattened what was once one of the most diverse forests in the East. Not to mention the ruining of entire human communities.
