Dr. Ralph Maughan is professor emeritus of political science at Idaho State University. He was a Western Watersheds Project Board Member off and on for many years, and was also its President for several years. For a long time he produced Ralph Maughan’s Wolf Report. He was a founder of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition. He and Jackie Johnson Maughan wrote three editions of “Hiking Idaho.” He also wrote “Beyond the Tetons” and “Backpacking Wyoming’s Teton and Washakie Wilderness.” He created and is the administrator of The Wildlife News.

I have said this before and would like to say it again – wolves.wordpress.com is one of the two sites I read first thing every day (dailykos is the other). There is nowhere else I can get the wildlife news like I can here and I feel comfortable expressing my opinions as they are somewhat respected as well. I am grateful to Ralph, Brian, Ken and all of the people who post here as you give me hope for the future of wildlife and the environment and sometimes a reality check that all is not well with those two issues. I cannot imagine a day without this blog!
This website is great for up-to-the-minute information on our public lands and the “management” of its wildlife inhabitants. The more people are aware of it, the more change is possible. People on here may differ in opinion, but wildlands are important to all of us. We need to make ourselves heard to our politicians so they have no excuse for not representing our interests.

on the Basin Butte Wolf pack thread you say you noticed an increasing number of users from Germany on the server.
I guess you have quite a few followers from Europe on this blog, thus not necessarily as “active” bloggers. Maybe it´s because Elli picked up this thread on her german language blog, which has – at least in my opinion – the disadvantage of being strictly limited to “Yellowstone” subjects and is normally very quiet and dormant compared to this one. It´s well known in the IT world that blogs are still not very popular in Germany and this might be even more true for blogs in a different language. I think it would be quite interesting to know about the composition of the audience on this blog here. Would be nice if people would come out and let us know in which country they are “homebased”. As I always insist: Wildlife conservation is not an isolated but a global issue! And we all can only benefit from a different perspective.

I can tell that the increased traffic is mostly from Elli’s website. Her book, Die Wölfe von Yellowstone, seems to be greatly admired and is full of detail. She gave me a copy.
Yellowstone wolves are influenced by wolf management in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. As the wolves of the Park decline, I hope she will write more of the wolves outside Yellowstone, especially because Idaho is better wolf habitat than Yellowstone Park.
WordPress gives us a lot of statistics about visitors to the blog, but not country. I don’t think we get very many international visitors except when Kathie Lynch writes.
I would welcome more. I certainly appreciate your comments.
