Dr. Ralph Maughan is professor emeritus of political science at Idaho State University. He was a Western Watersheds Project Board Member off and on for many years, and was also its President for several years. For a long time he produced Ralph Maughan’s Wolf Report. He was a founder of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition. He and Jackie Johnson Maughan wrote three editions of “Hiking Idaho.” He also wrote “Beyond the Tetons” and “Backpacking Wyoming’s Teton and Washakie Wilderness.” He created and is the administrator of The Wildlife News.

So, I want to know who will be the eyes, ears and investigative legs of FWS during this time they assume management. Hot line for reporting depredation incidents? Big freakin’ deal!
Are they going to pull investigative resources out of their backsides or ignore the incidents? I can see it now – FBI (after the very few FWS law enforcement folks are deployed) teams dispatched to investigate mysterious disappearance of collared wolves in ID. The black suburban with fed lic. plates show up and men in black or navy gray dress suits, and talk into their sleeves, comb the countryside for clues. Now there is an effective use of your federal tax dollars during these lean times.
Will state law enforcement – game wardens- still be investigating wolf poaching incidents through some co-op agreement for their help? Are the details available yet?
