Barker: Industry rolls over mercury initiative .
Rocky Barker – Idaho Statesman

Mercury is an element that does not degrade to anything less harmful. It causes developmental problems in children and unborn fetuses and it accumulates in fish and other food sources making them unsafe to eat.

Silver Creek, one of Idaho’s most famed flyfishing streams, has fish with unsafe levels of mercury.

One Response to Barker: Industry rolls over mercury initiative

Well this has the marks, too, of Butch Otter and all those republican friends ICL has been cultivating – yanking the strings of DEQ — too.

One wonders, too, what role the Simplot phosphate empire has had in all this. Wouldn’t want DEQ regulating ANY pollutants too much, now would we? Or the Simplot stinking cattle feedlot influence as well. ANY regulation in the minds of the Ag clowns that run this state is bad.

Quote

‎"At some point we must draw a line across the ground of our home and our being, drive a spear into the land and say to the bulldozers, earthmovers, government and corporations, “thus far and no further.” If we do not, we shall later feel, instead of pride, the regret of Thoreau, that good but overly-bookish man, who wrote, near the end of his life, “If I repent of anything it is likely to be my good behaviour."

~ Edward Abbey
