Eight tracts will not be auctioned; 52 studied more, 17 given up to oil and gas interests-
Tim DeChristopher’s brave disruption of the December 2008 oil and gas lease auction in Utah has resulted in a new decision by the new Secretary of Interior. Politicians and groups are characterizing it in differing fashions according to their political party and interest.
I’d call the decision mixed.

Dr. Ralph Maughan is professor emeritus of political science at Idaho State University. He was a Western Watersheds Project Board Member off and on for many years, and was also its President for several years. For a long time he produced Ralph Maughan's Wolf Report. He also wrote "Beyond the Tetons" and "Backpacking Wyoming's Teton and Washakie Wilderness." He created and is the administrator of The Wildlife News.

I was under the impression that Environmental groups settled the debts owed by Tim DeChristopher on the lease agreements. or did the government refuse to accept them?
