  1. Every time there is an oil “leak,” “spill,” “rupture,” or whatever they call it, soon we learn that the oil companies have been cheating and lying. Often the federal and/or state regulators have been complicit.

    Now we see it again.

Dirty little secret: 40% of our imported oil comes from Canadian tar sands; more than any other source. One of the most environmentally destructive oil extractions ever devised! Similar leaks have occurred in Michigan and a few other places, recently.

Quote

‎"At some point we must draw a line across the ground of our home and our being, drive a spear into the land and say to the bulldozers, earthmovers, government and corporations, “thus far and no further.” If we do not, we shall later feel, instead of pride, the regret of Thoreau, that good but overly-bookish man, who wrote, near the end of his life, “If I repent of anything it is likely to be my good behaviour."

~ Edward Abbey
