This week Western Watersheds Project and Buffalo Field Campaign filed to intervene in the lawsuit brought by Park County and the Park County Stockgrowers Association which oppose the state plan which would allow bison to use the Gardiner Basin south of Yankee Jim Canyon for part of the winter without being constantly hazed, captured, and slaughtered. While the plan wouldn’t let bison use the area year-round, it would let them use the area during the harshest part of the winter which is a step in the right direction.

I wrote an affidavit in support of the intervenors.

‎"At some point we must draw a line across the ground of our home and our being, drive a spear into the land and say to the bulldozers, earthmovers, government and corporations, “thus far and no further.” If we do not, we shall later feel, instead of pride, the regret of Thoreau, that good but overly-bookish man, who wrote, near the end of his life, “If I repent of anything it is likely to be my good behaviour."

~ Edward Abbey
